To understand what a bereavement gift is, it is first necessary to understand what the word bereavement means. Bereavement in short, is a word that means grieving the loss of a loved one. When a friend or family members passes on, those left behind usually feel a deep sense of loss with some feeling an intense amount of loneliness. It is common for those that love and care about the survivors to send a gift that expresses love for the survivor and warm wishes as they go through this difficult time in their life. This gift is typically called a bereavement gift. Common bereavement gifts include:
- House plants (several varieties are common)
- Flower arrangements (these are only temporary, but can be uplifting)
- Keepsake plaques (usually these specify the years the loved one lived)
- Wall or Shelf clocks
- Frames pictures (usually of the loved one that passed away)
- Donations (this will help defray the costs of the funeral and ongoing expenses)
Unfortunately, we all find ourselves losing loved ones and while bereavement gifts won’t bring our loved ones back, they do help ease our sense of loss and let us remember that others love us and we are not alone in this World.
